Featured Modeller: the medic EK9 (long overdue posting)

First off, i know i'm lacking in updates for the site. I've been very busy with work and everyday life that i haven't had time to build or update the blog. even the facebook account had a slow down. 

Some quick hits before i proceed to our featured modeller today:
 - will upload the completed and final pictures of  my grey AE86
 - some pics of my new project, and not my typical or usual build
 - lined up are some more feature modellers. (i have also updated my links section if anyone is interested)

Now, back to our regular posting:

Our featured modeller today is Alistair Canlas, or simply known as +Medic. The local car club I'm an admin and member of is grateful to him as he started out Auto Scale Modellers Philippines (ASMP) as a Facebook group that grew into a full pledged club about 1/24 scale modelling. Now club has regular Sunday meets and get-together to share tips and tricks. It also opened doors to new friends and suppliers, thus making the hobby more accessible to all. Soon members of ASMP will be featured here on the SR blogs too.

Here's a quick background from Alistair:
"Hi, I’m Alistair also known as +MEDIC (because I happen to be in the health care field) in some forums and I came from the Philippines. I started out building kits back in 2007 when I was 17; it was a Tamiya Tommi Makinen Evo VI rally version, with few panels painted. Started out hard at the top which resulted to countless failed kits. I got into auto scale model building due to grievous frustration of not having a 1:1 car, so I thought, I’d settle for 1:24 for the meantime. I started out the Facebook group Auto Scale Modellers Philippines to find or to be found by auto scale builders in our country and all over the world. I’m very positive that our group helped a lot of new and experienced modellers of tips and tricks. Well so much for that.  I work with sub-basic scale modeling tools and paints (I’ am another spraycan user), I use hardware spraycans. I built this Fujimi EK9 to prove my maturity as a builder and I’m happy on how it looks like (despite the imperfections). This is my build, I hope you like it as much as I do."

Featured Modeller: An Awesome red R33 GTR

another masterpiece from karl, this time a gorgeous red R33. I will admit I'm not really a fan of R33s, but hot damn, this R33 changed my mind. Awesome as always from Karl.

- Scratch-built intercooler pipes, turbo, strut brace and air cleaner
- Model Scientists Bride Vorga seats and Tamiya Nismo Steering wheel
- Scratch-built harness bar behind front seats
- Aber photo-etched seat belt accessories with Tuner Model green harness
- Detailed Tamiya Nismo LMGT-4 rims with Tuner Model air valves
- Tamiya Bridgestone tires from a Nissan Skyline R34 GT-R
- Scale Motorsport carbon fibre decal applied to spoilers and window pillars
- Japanese tax disc and parking sticker from an Aoshima decal sheet


After 8 months in the making, it was about time to take it out of the garage! 

Feature: shakotan celica from Rollin80s / Luis Aguilar

this car just oozes awesomeness and attitude. the bulldozer air dam. the gaudy paint scheme. the wide rims on stretchwalls. the star zokusha exhaust. it screams shakotan/zokusha/kaido racer style. its a bad-ass looking car.

Featured modeller: Victor aka Backyard Inc.

its been a long time sine i posted anything here, but im more active in posting my builds over the evil website called facebook . I have a model page there called Scaled Ricers, so please go ahead and click it, and hit like :p

But since i wanted to do a modeller feature, this will also coincide with the FB page update too.

Our feature fir today is Victor, aka BackyardInc. At first i saw his builds were really interesting, doing some dragged out hondas and cruiser style hondas. But then, this build of his, an ice blue S2000, stanced out, turboe'd and scratched engine bay with a F20C from Model Scientists, and a lot more other goodies. This is a scale model that was built with style and will surely break necks. i have to admit, that Victor stepped up his game with this awesome build, even with limited availability of tools. this shows you don't need to have all the best gadgets and tools to make something stunnning.

A little info about Victor, he writes to us:

"hey all , I'm victor , aka BACKYARDINC , i have been a model car builder since 1994 if I can remember correctly . It's been off and on thru the years . I live in the usa in a state called NEW JERSEY . I started off with lowriders and muscle cars . I kidd you not when I say I had almost every chevy impala kit made and turned into a lowrider lol . But sadly I have but two of those surviving kits still . Now a days , im into the import scene , mainly honda's , I have a R32 skyline along with some mini coopers too . I also like to scratch build . the challenge to take an idea of 1:1 scale and shrink it to 1:24 scale is just mind bottling . Then when you finish its just a big achievement . I can say this , with practice and the more you build , the better you can get . I always look at my builds as a work of art . The name "BACKYARDINC" has a meaning ...... I have very little tools and supplies , but I make the best of what I have , and come out with the model car looking like if I own a hobby shop . Backyard mechanics have like 5 tools but yet you will have a new engine when they are done , in there backyard , with kids running around . Thats how I build , I have but tweesers , scissors , and some styrene , and at the end of the day I end up with a model car that can inspire many ."

featured scale modeller: Karl Briffa aka Briffak from Malta

This is another feature of another fellow modeller. Karl is one of the cleanest JDM OEM model kit builders i know. His builds are absolutely fantastic, mostly OEM looking builds with just a change in wheels and ride height. Karl aka Briffak s one of the cleanest in the industry, interior and exterior wise.

My favorite build from karl is the Evo 6 lancer.

Karl writes for us:

"Hi, I've been into the car modelling world since the age of 15 where I used to add small paint touches to 1:24 scale diecasts to make them more realistic. After these, I moved to the larger 1:18 scale where I used to buy second-hand diecasts so that I could customize them to my liking. As time passed, in real life I was getting more interested in the world of the Japanese cars and at the beginning of 2008 I decided to transfer this interest into the car modelling scene and started building 1:24 plastic kits with the only theme being 'JDM cars!'. I build these mostly standard, out of the box, since I love the look these cars have when they roll out of the factory but I'm taking all the required time to make these as realistic as possible.
